Heartwood
Joana

Joanna teaches us on Tuesdays.
A nature connection group for 9-14 year olds.
This group meets from 9.30 - 2.30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the woodland at Acorns. Taught by inspiring art of mentoring (Jon Young) tutors and staff specialised in natural history/forest school skills. The group spends it’s time studying nature through observation and exploration, developing a connection to nature, learning bush-crafts and arts and crafts. Wednesday has more of a crafts focus where each week the children will make something to bring home.
There is often a focus to the term such as birds, sensory exploration, tracking or the sun etc.
Each day is different in Heartwood but a typical rhythm of the day may look like this:
At 9.30am we arrive, greet each other and hold morning circle; this is a really important part of our day as it allows us to 'check in' and share with each other before our busy day begins.
Around 9.45 - 10.30 we take part in energising games to get our bodies moving and our minds thinking.
From 10.30 - 11 we have a break time.
After break time until lunch time we explore and study the nature that surrounds us.
12 - 1pm is lunch time.
After lunch we spend time in our 'sit spot' and share together.
From around 1.30-2.30 we take part in craft and construction before our day end and parents collect us.
